On this show is Steve Messer head varsity basketball coach at Hersey High School. Being an alumni at Hersey, Steve couldn’t be happier leading the Huskies basketball program. A former Husky basketball player himself, Coach Messer learned how hard work equated into success. His struggles as a player made him work harder and practice smarter. These lessons learned as a young player has made Steve Messer the coach he his is today. We talk about the progression of the student athlete over the past twenty years. You will want to hear what he has to say on this topic. Coach Messer also gives us some helpful advice to all the young basketball players out there. He stresses the importance of off hand ‘weak hand’ dribbling and shooting drills. Also he stresses how to conduct these drills to make you better… Coach Messer also has some great advice for parents. He stresses that parents need to encourage their kids to organize themselves for playground games. The benefits are huge! Not only physical but mentally for young players. Coach Steve Messer’s biggest reward is watching his players go through the program at Hersey High School. At the end of each season he sees his kids as colleagues, not players. A group that works as one. That is what team sports is all about. Be sure to support your local High School sports teams this year.
