On this 108th edition of the Arlington-Prospect Advice Givers Podcast. Greg Padovani, Chairman of the Arlington Heights Veterans Memorial Committee, pays tribute to the Men, Women, and Families who made the ultimate sacrifice. Greg, in this powerful interview, encourages everyone to attend this years 100th annual Arlington Heights Memorial Day Parade, on Monday May 27th. Paying tribute to our fallen Hero’s of Arlington Heights, and to all Veterans, is our way of saying thanks!
Greg Padovani has a special place in his heart for all our Veterans. A Veteran himself, Greg served in the Army during the Vietnam war. In 2005, Greg and a group of distinguished individuals took it upon themselves to revitalize Memorial Park, right here in Arlington Heights. On Memorial Day the Parade will commence at the park. At the end of the parade, the Memorial Day Ceremony honors and remembers all who have given their lives for our Freedoms – especially Arlington’s Fallen Heroes – the 58 young Men from our town who died in the service of our Nation from the Civil War through Afghanistan. At this Ceremony, a list of names of area Veterans who have passed away in the preceding 12 months is also read.
At the base of the sculpture in Memorial Park it reads, “Because of our fallen hero’s and their families, Freedom Survives.” How true a statement is this? The over 700 bricks in Memorial Park pay tribute to fallen soldiers all over our great country. Each brick has an inscription of a fallen soldiers name. What makes these bricks special are the stories inside them. Greg shares with us a very moving story about Jim Bashlaban, a World War 2 Veteran who survived horrific conditions. You HAVE to tune in for Jim’s story. It will put into perspective how great our Veteran’s are.
